COUNTY:

Pee Wee:  Players in 3rd and 4th Grade.

Middie:  Players in 5th and 6th Grade.

Junior:  Players in 7th and 8th Grade.

Ø      Two practices per week.  Twelve games that will be played primarily on the weekends with intermittent weeknight games.  We have no control over the schedule as it is determined by the county supervisor.  11 v 11 format.  Teams will be formed by ability as determined by a placement process.  Based on last year’s numbers we anticipate one A level team and one B level team.  Junior's will participate in AA County Playoffs at the end of the season.

(Athletes may not play “Down” a level.  Players may play “UP” a level providing there is room at that level and the placement judges feel there is no risk of injury to the athlete.)

Seniors:  Athletes in  9th – 12th grades.

Ø   New AA County Program this year.  Any high school athlete who is not playing on a high school team is welcome to play in the AA County Senior League.  Registration is done through the County, not CAC.

UNIFORMS:

Each PeeWee, Middie and Junior player will receive a moisture-wicking top and mouth guard. They are yours to keep.  Players will be asked to purchase a kilt that has compression shorts built in.  Cost is $25.  Kilts will be available at all placement sessions to purchase.

PLACEMENTS: There are no cuts in field hockey and every athlete will be placed on a team.   We hold placements to determine the appropriate levels for all of our teams and to select the best players for our ‘A’ teams.   Criteria for placements to the ‘A’ teams will depend upon the following: work ethic, effort, commitment to practice schedule, stick skills, game sense, coachability, future potential, and speed.  Placements will be held at Crofton Middle School fields.

PeeWee Schedule: No placements

Middie & Junior Schedule:

Dates: July 21, 22 and 24 AND July 28,29 and 31

Times:  6:00 - 7:15 pm Middies, 7:15-8:30pm Juniors

The more sessions you attend the better your chances to make one of the A teams or to play UP a level.  Any fourth grader seeking to play Middie must attend at least one Middie placement.  Any sixth grader seeking to play Junior must attend at least one Middie and one Junior placement.

Team practices will begin around August 11th and determined by the respective coach. You will receive a call or email after placements directly from your coach.

EQUIPMENT:  Stick, mouthguard and shinguards.

MONDAY NIGHT SUMMER PICK UP GAMES:

At Crofton Middle School 6:30-?  All parents and players are welcome!  All age levels welcome!  June 30th-Labor Day.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Ø      Coaches/Assistant Coaches: No experience necessary!  Will train!  Would love to have at least 3 coaches per team.  Even if you can only help with the substitutions we want you!  Please rsvp to fieldhockey@croftonsports.com.

Ø      Placement Judges: If you have some playing experience please rsvp to fieldhockey@croftonsports.com.

QUESTIONS:

Q: What if I don’t attend placements?

A: You will be placed on the lowest level team of that age group.

Q: What if I can only attend one placement?

A: You will be placed on a team based on how well you play that day.  However, in the case of a tie, the placement on the A team will go to a player who attended the most sessions.

Q: I always put a carpool request and never get it.  What can I do to make sure my Pee Wee daughter gets on a team with her friends?

A: Register on-line and type it in the family notes box.  If you write in on a mail-in form, there is no guarantee that we will get your request.

Q: My daughter has never played before.  Is she too old?

A: Absolutely not!  Field Hockey can be picked up at any time.  We had several first time players in Juniors last year and a team with six new athletes went all the way to the County Championships!

Q: My daughter wants to play travel soccer.  Can she still make the A team?

A: Yes, but ultimately, it will depend upon the number of athletes at placements.  Preference for A teams will be given to athletes making field hockey a priority in the fall, but if there is space, you may be placed on an A team if you otherwise would qualify.

Q: Where can I buy equipment?

A: Behind the Back in Severna Park, Sports Her Way in Towson, Maryland, Lax World in Annapolis, Dicks, or Sports Authority. Also try www.longstreth.com – they often have great sales for field hockey equipment.

See you at the fields! Thank you!
